Every year, thousands of horses
are sent to slaughter.

At Bodega Meadows we provide love, care, safety,
rehabilitation, adoption, and a forever home
where our horses can live among
herd groups in rolling meadows.

Bodega Meadows Horse Sanctuary is a small nonprofit 501(c)(3) located in Bodega, California. We are dedicated to rescuing horses that are already bound to be exported to Mexico and Canada for slaughter. We also aim to educate the public about this horrific practice and bring awareness to an important bill that would ban horse slaughter in the United States and end export for slaughter abroad.

Meet the Herd

Check out our herd. We have eight rescued horses with a foal on the way. These horses have been given a second chance, but require a lot of care and training to give them the best posible life.

Exported for slaughter are documented by the USDA to be in good condition and  able to live out a productive life. Instead of being sold, re-homed, or donated, kill buyers outbid rescue organizations and legitimate horse owners, thus cheating these horse out of ever having a second chance at a good life.

2007

Congress stopped funding USDA horse meat inspections which protected America's horses from the egregious violations in U.S. slaughter plants.
